Kellie-Kirsty Hennessy

In 2007, Kellie read for her LLB at the University of Johannesburg (“UJ”), graduating in 2010. While at UJ, and during her penultimate year, she represented the University at the ‘All Africa Human Rights Moot Court ‘in Lagos, Nigeria. Kellie was also awarded the UJ moot court prize for that year. In her final year, Kellie was awarded the prize for best student for her work done at the UJ pro-bono law clinic. Kellie was also a tutor for Introduction to Legal Studies (2010); winner of a Scholarship for deserving LLB students (2008) and was also awarded membership to the Golden Key Honour Society (2007).

In 2011, Kellie went on to read for a Master’s degree in Private Law at the University of Stellenbosch, graduating at the end of the same year. Her Master’s subjects were: International Commercial Arbitration (Professor Butler), Copyright Law (Professor Owen Dean), International Comparative Law of Contracts and Information Technology Law (in which she achieved a first).

During 2012/2013, Kellie completed her articles at the then “DLA Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr” in Sandton. Kellie was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2014. She continued to practice as a litigation attorney in Gauteng. Kellie later moved to Durban in 2017.

During 2019, Kellie served pupillage under Adrian Camp at the KZN Bar. She was converted from an attorney to an advocate by the Legal Practice Council in August 2019. In 2020, Kellie was awarded the Ubunye Fellowship.
