Andreas Coutsoudis

Andreas Coutsoudis was admitted to the Bar in December 2007. Andreas holds a BCom and LLB (both awarded summa cum laude) from the University of Natal and a BCL and MPhil in Law from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.  Before coming to the Bar, he clerked at the Constitutional Court for Justice Thembile Skweyiya. He was recently awarded his PhD from Leiden University (his thesis focused on South African courts’ use of international law).

His practice has a particular focus on constitutional and administrative law, international law, and regulatory law (including competition and takeover law). He has appeared in the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Competition Appeal Court.

Andreas is an Honorary Research Fellow at the UKZN School of Law and has authored or co-authored book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. This includes authoring the chapter in Dugard’s International Law: A South African Perspective (6th ed, 2026) on the place of international law in South Africa’s domestic law.
