Stuart Humphrey

Stuart Humphrey graduated with a BA LLB from the University of Cape Town in 1992.

He then went traveling with his future wife, Katy, and the couple spent 2 years living in Japan, teaching English to locals.

On their return, they settled in Durban and Stuart was admitted as an advocate, and as a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Society of Advocates, in 1996.

His general civil litigation practice has, over the years, become an almost exclusively family law practice, dealing with all aspects of family law,  including financial claims in a number of high net worth divorce matters, and often sensitive, access to children matters and care and contact disputes.  Stuart also has extensive experience in Hague Convention international child abduction matters, representing clients from all over the world.

He has appeared in courts all over South Africa and  is a member of a legal team involved in litigation in the Supreme Court of Appeal dealing with the rights of those married in terms of Muslim Customary law.

His expertise led to his acceptance as a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers and he is a regular speaker at local family law conferences.

Since 2010, he has lectured pupils for the Society of Advocates on the subject of motion court.

He and Katy have three sons, William, Benjamin and Samuel.
